Improve Your Response Rates

1. Be clear on the purpose of the survey - Clearly communicate why you are conducting the survey and how you intend to use the results.

2.Provide something in return - Consider offering respondents an incentive such as the chance to enter a draw, a discount on future purchases or a free sample of your product.

3. Make your invitation personal - A personalized email invitation can increase your responses by 5%

4. Keep it short - Respondents should be able to complete the survey in less than 5 minutes. Use skip logic and conditional branching to minimize drop offs.

5. Keep it simple - Your questions should be concise and easy to understand. Avoid using flashy graphics and lots of colours.

6. Don't ask too many open-ended questions - Too may opened questions can lead to an increase in drop off rates.

7. Send reminder emails - Follow up with email reminders to people who have not responded, but do not send more than two reminders and don't forget to exclude unsubscribes

8. Share your results - Respondents like to know the results of a survey and this will encourage them to complete future surveys.

9. Respondents need to believe that their responses will be used - if you are asking customer how you can improve your customer service for example - then publicise how you are going use the findings to achieve this.

10. Have realistic expectations - The average response rate for an online survey is 20% to 25%.
